ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Janice Freeman

Janice Freeman’s inspiration is her sense of place in the natural world, and her observations in nature are the genesis of her art. Her interpretations of nature’s wonders are manifested in her work, resulting in a combination of magical realism, Surrealism and expressions of avian enchantment. Her landscapes enrich our understanding of the dichotomy of human nature, as seen through the division of a common landscape into two separate worlds, representing her love and longing for Mexico, and her bi-cultural roots.

Her fascination with the landscapes of Mexico, the rolling rivers of Colorado, and the birds and bees of the Houston bayous are all manifested in the creation of her fantastical world and zoomorphic artworks.
